AAs the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for UX at Alaan, I own design decisions from strategy through execution. This includes defining experience principles, setting quality standards, and ensuring consistency across mobile, web, and emerging AI-driven surfaces.

My focus has been to move UX from “delivery” to decision-making, ensuring design has a clear seat at the table.

In a fast-moving fintech environment, not everything can be done at once. I work closely with product and leadership to prioritize design efforts based on impact, not just urgency.

This means:

  • Saying no to low-leverage work

  • Protecting foundational UX investments (systems, IA, accessibility)

  • Balancing short-term delivery with long-term product health

As the team scaled, I played a key role in hiring and shaping the design function, focusing on both craft and mindset. I’ve mentored junior designers closely, providing direction, feedback, and hands-on guidance—while creating space for ownership and growth.

Beyond 1:1 mentorship, I’ve emphasized:

  • Clear expectations around quality

  • Strong critique culture

  • Continuous skill development through internal designathons and experimentation (including AI and vibe-coding workflows)

I work closely with product, engineering, marketing, and customer support to align UX decisions with real user needs and business realities. Part of this role is advocacy, helping stakeholders understand why UX choices matter and where trade-offs should (or shouldn’t) be made.

Over time, this has helped position UX as a strategic function rather than a support role.

  1. Creating Vision, Not Just Outputs

A major part of my role has been defining and maintaining a clear UX vision and translating it into roadmaps the team can execute against.

This includes:

  • Setting experience north stars

  • Aligning design direction with business goals

  • Ensuring new features reinforce, not fragment, the product experience

Finally, leadership at Alaan means being a guardian of quality. I’m deeply involved in reviews, edge cases, and final QA—ensuring what ships reflects the standards we set. Good UX isn’t accidental. It’s the result of consistent judgment, clear ownership, and thoughtful execution.
